Deutsche Bank explores new territory in digital communications

DB Research has released a new animated film to raise awareness of a recent study on the importance of agriculture to climate change. The film, Mitigating climate change through agriculture, which runs for about two-and-a-half minutes is both informative and easy to understand.

“Agriculture and forestry play a decisive role in reducing greenhouse gases. Climate-friendly agricultural practices provide the potential to cut emissions by a third. This is often underestimated,” explained Claire Schaffnit-Chatterjee, Senior Analyst at DB Research and author of the study. “What is also crucial is the existence of major synergies between mitigation, adaptation, food security, environmental sustainability and rural, social and economic development,” she added.

“Up until now, we have published our research results in the standard formats, that is, either electronically as a download or app or in hard copy,” said Marion Grupe, Head of Marketing at DB Research. “With this agriculture film, we are trying out a completely different approach, and we are sure that this will bring DB Research to many people's attention for the first time. This is a fun, modern format,” she added.

Nico Reinhold, Deputy Global Head of Emerging & Social Media, said: “Digital Public Relations is an essential part of Deutsche Bank’s communications strategy. In order to reach our stakeholders on the internet and strengthen our online reputation, we have to use digital formats which can be easily disseminated on the internet.”

In addition to the film, a concise information graphic is available that summarises the film in a visually-compelling way similar to that of a comic strip.

The film was published on YouTube, while the graphic is available on the web platform visual.ly. The Bank will aim to increase its reach on the internet by using “viral” sharing effects on social networks like Facebook and Twitter.

“Going forward, we will look to publish more and more Deutsche Bank content in informative and fresh digital formats, focussing on visual storytelling,” said Reinhold.
